Getting started

  • Create your Marvin account

    Open app.marvinmoney.com on the web, or download Marvin from the App Store or Play Store. Tap Sign inContinue with Google or Sign up with email. We'll send a verification email — click the link and you're in. The whole thing takes about 30 seconds.

  • First-time signup walkthrough

    The first time you sign in, Marvin plays a five-frame welcome story (it plays once and never again). After that the Dashboard opens. Three things to do straight away: (1) set your country & currency from Settings, (2) add your salary using the Add salary pill on the Dashboard, (3) add a recurring bill or two so the timeline has something to draw.

  • Set your country & currency

    Tap your avatar (top right) → SettingsCountry & currency. We auto-detect on first launch from your phone's locale, but you can change it any time. This setting drives plan prices (purchasing-power-parity adjusted), Marvin's currency symbol, and how Marvin calibrates its tone — ₹400 for coffee in Mumbai is normal; CA$400 in Toronto is huge.

  • Add your first salary & bills

    Salary: Dashboard → Add salary → enter amount, pick weekly / biweekly / monthly, and the next pay date. Marvin uses this to anchor the pay-day forecast. Recurring bills: Bills tab → Add bill → vendor, amount, day-of-month, frequency. Both immediately appear on the timeline and feed into the forecast.

  • Move from another budgeting app

    Most apps export to CSV. Open SettingsImport and drop the CSV file in — Marvin parses each row into a structured entry, you confirm the batch with one tap. We never need credentials from your old app. For PDF statements, use the Marvin Vision upload flow on the Dashboard.

  • Snap your first receipt

    Dashboard → tap the camera icon (Marvin Vision). Take a photo or pick from gallery. Marvin reads merchant, total, date, currency and category in under a minute. A review card pops up — confirm or edit any field, then save. The entry lands on your timeline immediately.

  • Upload a bank or card statement

    Same upload flow as a receipt — pick a PDF instead of a photo. Marvin parses every line, then hands them back to you for one-tap approval. You stay in the loop; nothing posts to your timeline until you say yes.

  • Supported file types

    Receipts: JPG, PNG, HEIC. Statements: PDF (single or multi-page). Bulk imports: CSV and XLSX. If a human can read it, Marvin Vision can usually read it too.

  • Why didn't Marvin recognize my receipt?

    Three usual culprits: (1) blurry or low-light photo, (2) faded thermal-paper receipt, (3) a script or layout Marvin Vision hasn't seen much of. Re-shoot in steady light at a slight angle to avoid glare. If it still can't read it, type the entry manually — Marvin will remember the merchant for next time.

  • Batch upload from email

    Coming soon — forward a statement to a unique inbox like your-id@inbox.marvinmoney.com and Marvin parses it on arrival. For now, download the PDF from your bank and upload it via the Marvin Vision flow.

  • How to ask Marvin a question

    Open the Marvin AI tab (Pro and Business). Type the question — "how am I doing?", "can I afford a $200 jacket?", "what should I cut?". Marvin checks your real numbers (balance, bills, salary, recent spending) before it answers, so the response is grounded in your actual account, not a generic script.

  • Why Marvin sometimes says "I'm not sure"

    Marvin is built to be honest. When there's not enough data — new account, no salary set, no transactions for the period you're asking about — it'll say so rather than guess. Add the missing piece (salary, balance, a few recent expenses) and ask again.

  • Editing entries through chat

    You can edit any entry directly in chat: tap the expense line in Marvin's reply (web) or long-press it (mobile). Or just say it in plain English — "delete the $5 coffee from yesterday", "change Uber to $22". Marvin always confirms before changing anything.

  • Marvin in your local currency

    Marvin uses the currency you set in Settings. Every amount in chat appears with your symbol, and Marvin's judgments are calibrated to your local cost-of-living — not USD. Change country in Settings and the next message recalibrates immediately, no app restart.

  • Clearing the conversation

    Settings → Marvin AIClear conversation. The chat history is removed from your account immediately. The lightweight memory Marvin uses to keep its tone consistent is also cleared.

Budget & timeline

  • Update your bank balance

    Dashboard → tap the balance tile at the top → Update balance → enter today's actual figure. Marvin uses this as the anchor for the forecast: today's balance + scheduled bills + expected salary − projected discretionary spend = projected pay-day balance.

  • Add a recurring bill

    Bills tab → Add bill → vendor name, amount, day-of-month, frequency (monthly / weekly / yearly / custom). Marvin places it on the timeline going forward and rolls it into the pay-day forecast straight away.

  • Skip or move a bill

    On the timeline, tap any future bill → Skip this month or Move to… with a date picker. Skipping is one-time only — the bill returns next cycle. The forecast updates the moment you confirm.

  • Why is the timeline locked?

    Free sees the current week. Starter sees the current month. Pro and Business see the full timeline — past months and future months including the next two pay days. Tap the lock anywhere on the timeline to see your upgrade options.

Account & billing

  • Start, pause, or cancel a subscription

    Settings → SubscriptionManage. Web subscribers are taken to the Stripe billing portal, where you can pause or cancel any time. iOS / Android subscribers are sent to the App Store or Play Store subscription manager — Apple and Google require cancellation to happen there.

  • Switch plans (upgrade / downgrade)

    Settings → SubscriptionChange plan. Upgrades start immediately and we pro-rate the difference. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current cycle. On the App Store or Play Store, plan switches inside the same subscription group apply right away — even during the free trial — without losing the trial.

  • Update your payment method

    Web: Settings → Subscription → Manage payment opens a secure Stripe portal where you can update or replace the card. Mobile: change the payment method in your Apple ID or Google Play account — Apple and Google handle billing for App Store / Play Store subscriptions.

  • Annual vs monthly billing

    Annual saves about 20% over monthly for the same plan. Same features, same Marvin. Cancel any time. Annual subscribers get a pro-rated refund within the first 30 days; after that the remaining months continue to the end of the billing year.

  • Refund policy

    Web: full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked — email hello@marvinmoney.com from your account email. App Store / Play Store: Apple and Google own those receipts — request a refund through their respective support pages. We're happy to help where we can.

Privacy & data

  • Export your data

    Settings → PrivacyExport. Pick CSV, PDF or JSON. Marvin emails you a download link in a few minutes. Available on every plan, including Free.

  • Delete your account

    Settings → PrivacyDelete account → confirm. We wipe everything — receipts, statements, chat, settings, bills — within 30 days. No backups, no ghost copies, no recovery. Export anything you want to keep before you press the button.

  • Request a copy of your data (GDPR)

    Email privacy@marvinmoney.com from the account address with subject "GDPR data request". We respond within 7 days, usually within 24 hours, with a complete export of everything we hold for you.

  • How we handle receipts

    Encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Used only to draw your timeline, generate insights, and answer your questions in chat. Never sold, never shared with brokers, never used to train shared AI models. Access is restricted to a small named team for incident response only.
